We are passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ
South Wheelock Freewill Baptist Church began in the late 1800s. The current building was constructed in 1884 by families on this side of town desiring a closer place to worship. Today, our church is still thriving and growing as the men and the women of our congregation continue to reach northern Vermont with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are doing this to the best of our abilities, with grace and humility, seeking to show the love and truth of Jesus Christ to a lost and hurting world.
South Wheelock Freewill Baptist Church is a member church of the Baptist Churches of New England.
Our Mission Statement
“To glorify God through simple yet sincere worship, prayer, fellowship, and the preaching of God’s word, while equipping each believer for service and ministry”

As the pastor of a small community church, I am bi-vocational. This means in addition to serving as a pastor, I also work in our community as a general contractor (doing maintenance work and small construction projects). One of the benefits of serving in this way in my community is that I have a unique ability to meet the specific needs of the people around me, in a hands-on practical way that often leads to meaningful conversations with customers who would otherwise not have a positive Christ-focused input into their lives. Rural Vermont is a spiritually dark area, and there is a desperate need for the light of Christ to be shone into the lives of the people here.
